Description

The Wakizashi is a classic Japanese short sword with a curved, single-edged blade, circular or squared guard, and long grip that was worn by samurai in feudal Japan as a backup sword. The Tokugawa shogunate mandated that samurai wear both a Katana and a Wakizashi in pairs. The Tachi sword was the Katana's precursor, and many were cut from the root and shortened, with their roots crushed and transformed into Katanas since the Muromachi period.

This Wakizashi sword is forged from hand-folded carbon steel in the traditional way, with damascus steel folded 12 times. The blade is fluted to reduce weight and improve balance, and it has been carefully sharpened and treated.

The tsuka, or handle, is made of wood, covered with genuine ray skin, and wrapped in red cotton cord. Two bamboo dowels provide stability and are attached to the handle.

This Wakizashi sword is a functional weapon that can be dismantled and sharpened. Its design and craftsmanship make it a valuable addition to any collection of Japanese swords.
